Celebrate World Oral Health Day on March 20th

On March 20, the world will have a chance to “Say Ahh” together as World Oral Health Day entertains and excites with information as well as educates. Mouths and minds will open on this day as you will see the connection between dental health and wellness. Learn about why you should step up your teeth cleaning efforts, get your tooth replacement procedures done as soon as possible, and how oral health impacts the rest of your body. You’ll learn a lot and have a good bit of fun while doing so.

Dental Health and Wellness: Think Mouth, Think Health

Through this year’s theme, Say Ahh, and its sub-theme, Think Mouth, Think Health, you will understand why your mouth and body are intertwined. Developing disciplined dental care habits keeps away plaque or any diseases that could interrupt fluidity with other organs of the body. It also preserves your appearance, especially as you get older. As you can see, there is much more to oral health than just having a pretty smile!

Oral disease traits are connected to illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even cancer. Nine out of every 10 people will suffer from oral disease, according to the World Dental Federation. These diseases range from tooth decay to halitosis (bad breath), gum disease, gingivitis, and more.

Dental Health and Wellness: “Think Mouth, Think Health”

World Dental Federation carried out a world survey on March 20th (World Oral Health Day) about children’s oral health. They contacted parents of children 18 or under from 10 different countries. This is what they learned:

  • Only 13% of parents took their child to the dentist before their first birthday; the recommended age for a first dental visit is before the 1st birthday.
  • 29% of parents went to the dentist due to pain or discomfort in their child’s mouth.
  • 50% of parents who had taken their child to the dentist said it was for a regular check-up.
  • 38% of parents said they limited sugary foods and drinks in their child’s diet to avoid oral disease.
  • 43% of parents said that they personally ensured their child’s teeth were brushed before bed time to avoid oral disease.
  • Only 26% of parents reported to have personally cleaned their child’s teeth from as soon as the first tooth pushed out.

Tips for Children’s Good Oral Health:

  1. Have Regular Dental Check-Ups no later than the first birthday
  2. Practice Good Oral Care, especially before going to bed
  3. Eat a Health Diet that is low in sugar and salt
